New details emerged on downtown’s proposed innovation corridor on Bay Street at the Business Journal’s Downtown Development Panel Discussion event at the Ritz Theatre Tuesday night, including a virtual reality-compatible video that brings the corridor to life.

The proposed $62.9 million corridor is a shared vision of the Jacksonville Transportation Authority, North Florida Transportation Planning Organization, JEA, Jax Chamber and the City of Jacksonville put forward in an application for a $25 million federal grant. The “Bay Jax Innovation Corridor” would feature 15 autonomous shuttles, smart infrastructure that could detect things like flooding streets and pedestrians approaching crosswalks, solar-panel lined sidewalks and roadways and more.
