Sunwing, a Canadian airline, will begin seasonal, non-stop flight service between Toronto and Daytona Beach Jan. 28 thanks to collaboration and hard work of several county agencies, Daytona Beach International Airport officials stated in a news release.

“This initiative was realized through teamwork and collaboration between multiple entities in the community,” said Jay Cassens, director of business development for the airport. “It would not have been possible without the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Volusia County Council, the entire airport team, Sunwing staff and our local community advocate Alfredo Gonzalez.”

Airport and county officials alike said the new service provider will open up increased tourism and business opportunities within the county. “From tourism to economic development, it’s a home run for our region,” Mr. Cassens said. “We look forward to growing our partnership for years to come.”

A larger travel market opens back up at the airport thanks to the new services Sunwing offers commercial flight consumers, said Rick Karl, DBIA director, during the big reveal event Sept. 12.
