When Chipley resident Donna Sewell passed through the airport Monday, she and her fellow passengers received balloons.
The Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP) celebrated having a million passengers in the calendar year and handed out balloons and cupcakes to everyone aboard a Delta flight from Atlanta to mark the milestone. This is the first time the airport has reached the milestone.
“This is really exciting,” said Sewell. “We’ve been here through the old airport. We’re very appreciative of this. We’re proud of the airport and all they’ve done for the community, increasing flights for the people in and out of Panama City.”
Fire trucks gave a water salute as the flight landed, and passengers were welcomed with applause as they passed through the lobby. The airport had just 300,000 passengers when it started in 2010.
